CILC Presents: Rebecca MacKinnon - Consent Of The Networked: The Worldwide Struggle for Internet Freedom The California International Law Center and UC Davis School of Law present: TED GLOBAL 2011 Speaker: Rebecca MacKinnon Consent Of The Networked: The Worldwide Struggle for Internet Freedom As the debate rages over whether online communications technologies are a force for freedom of expression and liberation or a tool of repression, Rebecca MacKinnon argues that the time has come to address fundamental, urgent questions of how technology should be structured and governed to support the rights and liberties of internet users. Drawing upon two decades of experience as an international journalist, co-founder of the citizen media network Global Voices, Chinese Internet censorship expert, and Internet freedom activist, MacKinnon will discuss ideas contained in her recent book, Consent of the Networked: The Worldwide Struggle for Internet Freedom, and offer a framework for concerned citizens to understand the complex and often hidden power dynamics amongst governments, corporations, and citizens in cyberspace.
